We spent this past weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona – though the weather didn’t cooperate, we made the best of it and had an amazing time! We stayed at the Westin Kierland resort and… wow!
We stayed in a casita room near the pool and water amenities – a lazy river, waterslide, children’s play area and shallow pool, adult pool, and the FlowRider boardsport simulator.
Our room was beautiful and had plenty of space. We appreciated the full bathroom with separate tub and shower – it didn’t feel like a hotel room at all!

The Kierland is beautiful! It’s clean and the staff is beyond accommodating.

Upon arrival, during the thunderstorm, Jack declared that the Kierland looked like his favorite Disney ride:

The Tower of Terror.

I don’t know about that, but it was definitely the highest compliment this 8 year-old could have given them!
The grounds were beautiful, and Steve is dying to come back when the sun is shining to play some golf!

The accommodations were perfect, and meals were delicious, but the real highlight of our stay was the Kierland FlowRider.

You can surf or bodyboard. Do tricks like you’re skateboarding. Wipeout, and then get right back up. I don’t think I need to say much about the FlowRider, though, after showing you these pictures.
Before getting on the FlowRider, the staff gives you a rundown of what to expect. They did a great job making the kids feel comfortable with the rushing water, and let them know they were close by if needed.

Our tween… the one who fights with his brother all the time and only smiles on special occasions?
Yes, him. He loved it.
The water was heated so even on this overcast and chilly day, they all enjoyed themselves!

Jack had a blast, too! He was concentrating a little harder than Michael was, so there aren’t quite as many smiles from him ;)

The kids weren’t the only ones having fun on the FlowRider – Dad got in on the action, too!

I created a video so you could see the FlowRider in action. Make sure to keep your eye out for the chain reaction that leads to Steve’s wipeout – it’s my favorite part!
The day we went, the temperature was 40… heading back to the FlowRider during the warmer weather this summer is definitely on our to-do list!
This post is part of a series of posts sponsored by #ScottsdaleAZ. A big thank you to the Westin Kierland for inviting us up for the night and making the boy’s weekend with the FlowRider! The Kierland provided accommodations and access to the FlowRider in exchange for social media and blog promotion. As always, I wouldn’t recommend something I didn’t 100% believe in!
