Come find me at Aspiring Mama’s place today for Story Time Saturdays (yes, a little bit late…).

Every Saturday, she features a blogger reading to their little one, and Jack and I chose to read Big Sharks.

Michael is currently too cool for the camera, so he played videographer.

At about 3:10 into the video, Jack has an America’s Funniest Home Video moment… Steve thinks I should send it in…

A joke to start your week

Me: What sound do porcupines make when they kiss?

Jack: Huh?

Me: What sound do porcupines make when they kiss?

Jack: Are you talking to me? (looking through squinty, tired eyes)

Michael: It’s a joke. She’s talking to both of us.

Jack: Oh. What, Mom?

Me: What sound do porcupines make when they kiss? (SO over the joke right now)

Jack: I don’t know. (shrugging shoulders. done with the joke.)

Michael: I don’t know. What? (Thank you, first born!)

Me: Ouch!

Jack: Ouch?

Michael: Yeah, they say ouch because they are porcupines. And it hurts when they kiss.

Jack: Hee hee. Ooouuuuuuch.

Michael: Ouch, ouch, ouch!

Jack: Owie!!!

Michael: Hey, porcupine, I’m gonna kiss you. Muah! OUCH!!!!

Jack: Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

Michael: Ha ha. Muah, muah, muah… OWIE!!!

Me: Ok, guys. It was just a joke. Nevermind.

Larry The Lizard {A Wordful Wednesday post}

Meet Larry:

We found him climbing our house this evening.

Larry is a very brave lizard.

I know this because he obviously saw Jack from up there on the wall, and still decided to come down to say hello.

The boys had just dried off from swimming and were so excited to play with their new pet.

You see, we don’t get many lizards in our backyard (because of our lizard chasing dogs).

Can you tell how excited the boys were?

It’s funny… Larry moved a lot more when Jack was holding him.

I think he was trying to escape.

Here’s Jack concentrating on not. dropping. the. lizard.

When Michael held Larry, he didn’t move an inch.

Do we all see how this story is ending?

We played with the lizard for about 40 minutes.

Jack liked the name Larry The Lizard (first, middle, and last), but Michael liked “Little Dude.”

Jack liked to see where Larry would “stick” to him.

Michael liked to watch the little dude breathe.

The boys took turns with Larry.

During Jack’s last turn, well… see for yourself.

Larry T. Lizard dropped his tail.

They do that when they’re terrified, you know.

It happened right about the time Jack tried to get the lizard to climb up his back.

Michael came to the rescue, and put Larry back on the house where we found him.

Minus a tail.

Weekend wrap-up

Michael has been MIA this weekend, which gives me more time to laugh at Jack spend with Jack.

Here are the pictures that I felt compelled to take yesterday.

Oh, and I should mention that there are plenty of moments where I just couldn’t grab the camera fast enough.

Here was Jack in his grim reaper costume. And eye mask. And compression socks.

The eye mask and socks came in a travel bag that Steve was given on the airplane last week.

He brought one home for each of the boys.

And Jack has been wearing the mask for two straight days.

Here are Jack and Molly making a “special recipe.”

Grass, ice, water, water balloons, and rocks.

It’ll keep the bugs away, apparently.

When I asked what the green stuff was, Molly said quickly, “Grass. But we didn’t pick it. We got it from the lawnmower.”

Because (you may not know this) Steve is a little… um… protective of the grass.

With good reason.

It’s beautiful and looks like green carpet.

But I thought it was funny that our neighbor friend knew enough to assure me that they didn’t pick the grass.

How about one more picture?

Michael took it of the birds who have grown fond of our watermelon and pumpkin that are growing outside.

They ate them.

The joke’s on the birds, though. Because their bellies are going to be getting really big very soon.

Summer Fun

As I was catching up on my blog reading today, I saw Stephanie’s post about what her family does for fun in the summer when it’s too hot to go outside.

And after I commented (because you always comment on the blogs you read, right?) and moved onto my next blog, Steve caught my attention and pointed to Jack.

Jack was copying Jerry (from Tom and Jerry) on the tv. Everything Jerry did, Jack did.

This wasn’t the first time he has done it, but it was definitely the most energetic he had been.

He ran around the living room when Tom was chasing Jerry.

When someone was dragging Jerry around on a blanket, Jack slid around the living room floor like someone was dragging him.

When Jerry pretended to scream…

So did Jack.

In a perfect example of how different my kids are…

This morning at 4:25 a.m., Michael’s alarm went off. Since I heard it first (from across the house), I woke him up and we went outside to quietly and calmly watch the partial lunar eclipse.

At 4:30 in the morning, it was warm. Very warm. But comfortable.

I tried and tried to get a picture of the eclipse. It was blurry and shadowy to look at, so it was very difficult to get a photo of.

But here was my best:

If I had been… you know… really awake that early, I would have snapped a picture of the two of us.

So, that’s what we do when it’s too hot to go outside during the day.

We re-enact Tom and Jerry and go outside at 4:30 in the morning.

What do you do?

My boys are sick.

Well, two of the three of them are. Steve is feeling fine.

Michael had bronchitis and a horrible sore throat about three weeks ago, and apparently that never really got better.

So, now he has an ear infection and the remnants of bronchitis.

Namely, the cough.

*hack, hack, hack*

Jack was fine until this week.

A certain situation (more on that below) came about Sunday evening and on Tuesday morning he had a runny nose.

And on Wednesday, he had a sore throat and a watery eye.

On Thursday, his eye started to become goopy (Yes, that’s an actual medical term).

And today I just couldn’t stand it anymore.

I brought them both in to the doctor.

Dr. Moore: Hey look! It’s Michael and Jack! How are you guys?

Jack: Well, I have a really runny nose. And my eye feels like it’s really tight (see visual below).

LOVE the toothless face :)

Dr. Moore: Wow, that’s a good description, Jack.

Jack: And my throat… it feels like the germs are shooting out splinters all over with guns. Like pow, pow, pow. And my eye, it was really watery and now it has, like, goop coming out of it, and it’s gross.

Dr. Moore: Ok. That’s more of a description than adults give me.

Mom: Who wants to tell Dr. Moore how Jack got sick?

Jack: Michael took my fork at the dinner table, and he put it in his mouth and licked it. Then he breathed all over my plate.

Dr. Moore: Did you eat from that fork, Jack?

Jack: Yes.

Michael: But he threw corn at me! And I had to get back at him!

Dr. Moore: It sounds like you two need to behave better at the dinner table. Michael, if you can’t go to the Grand Canyon next week like you planned to, who is to blame?

Michael: Jack.

Jack: Michael.

A walk, a win, and a wiped out Mom.

The walk

Jack and I went on a nature walk today.

We grabbed our cameras,

and our snacks (tightened up in the strap of his hat),

and our cheesy smiles (well, he brought his, as you can see).

We stopped on the way out to take a picture of our herb garden (which is doing very well, thank you):

and we were on our way.

Thankfully, our walk was only 1/2 mile long, because a certain someone was wiped out after the first 2 minutes.

I had no idea that my readers would end up falling in love with my Mom.

But that’s what happens when you meet her.

It seems like for a couple of weeks the blog has… maybe not lost focus, but broadened it’s focus a bit…

And I wanted to apologize for my lack of posting about these guys:

Jack: “Mom, why are you talking about lip bombs?”

Michael: “She’s talking about lip balm, Jack.”

Jack: “Yeah, it’s funny, because bombs go… peeeeeerrrrrrrrr….. BOMB! and your lips don’t do that.”

Michael: “Yeah, Jack, it’s not like…”

Mom: “Guys. Stop. Michael, it’s not even worth getting worked up over. It’s Jack, you know.”

Michael: “Yeah…”
