A Public Service Announcement

July 4, 2010

When you mix this:

and this:

make sure that you make him wear one of these:

Because even though a full helmet might look like overkill,

you’ll be thankful for that overkill when the helmet looks like this:

and the rest of your 5 year old looks like this:

Do you notice that perfect little uninjured face and head?

I would much rather be sitting in Urgent Care with a smiling 5 year old than riding in an ambulance with him.

To answer your questions before you ask them…

Yes, he’s fine.

No, it’s not broken (just badly bruised).

Yes, we still have the scooters.

No, Grandma and Grandpa didn’t get in trouble :)

Yes, he got right back on it (and was yelled at for going too fast again).

Favorite Jackisms of the week:

After the fall, Steve and I were assessing his injuries and Jack said (while crying), “This must be what it feels like when I squish the bugs and kill them.”

On the way home from California, we were talking about how Jack had a tough week (with the big fall). He said, “Yup. This isn’t what I expected my life to be like.”

Hahaha that last quote just cracked me up!
Great post… super funny but also a really serious reminder. Um, maybe Jack should wear that “overkill” all day, scooter or no scooter. Just sayin’.
So glad he’s ok, and making us all laugh!

Jack, Life is like a box of chocolates – you never know what you are getting until you take that leap and looks like you took that leap. And it wasn’t cherry filled either. WEAR THAT HELMET WHENEVER YOU GET ON THAT SCOOTER OR YOUR BIKE!!!!!!! AND that is Gramma Teetsie yelling at you.
I love you

Thanks for being such a cutie pie, Jack! I hope the rest of your life is more like what you’ve been planning. And in those plans of yours, please consider always wearing your safety gear! Love you! <3

Thanks for writing about this. As this is a motorized scooter, good for you/grandparents for getting the appropriate helmet. Too many times I see kids with the wrong helmet on one of these. Even with foot-powered scooters, it pains me to see kids not wearing the proper helmet or worse, no helmet at all.

I love that he fell and got right back on, that is huge! No Fear jack! i love it.

So glad he was okay, and that the helmet saved his gorgeous face and smart head.

Ok, Jack looks WAY too happy about all his injuries. Thank God for helmets though. I’m glad he’s doing all right.

He’s a cute one, that Jack. Always something good coming out of his mouth, isn’t there?!

Glad he’s okay. The massive helmet is totally worth it.

Yay for helmets! We advocate them ’round here (especially since Tim is a dirt/mountain biker and has seen some pretty crazy stuff).

I’m glad he’s okay. :)
