Nope. It doesn’t look any cooler when it’s spelled out like that.
106.
That looks even hotter.
One-oh-six.
Nope. Still hot.
Hot, hot, hot.
No matter how you write it.
It was 106 degrees today.
The boys are lying on the couch, the air conditioning is on, and the tv is entertaining us.
We ran our errands this morning, we were productive.
We jumped in the pool after lunch, so they got some energy out.
But now? It’s too hot to do anything.
And we’ve got 5 more weeks of break to go.
I thought I would share a bit of our summer plans with you.
If you’re a local reader, I hope you can take advantage of some of these things.
If you’re not local, I hope that your town has something similar to offer.
1. Grand Cinemas Summer Movie Club Until August 6th, Grand Cinemas is offering free movie showings for kids under the age of 10. Anyone over the age of 10 pays $2 a show. Did you read that again? FREE movies in an air-conditioned theatre. Eligible shows are played Mon-Fri at 10 am, with 2 different movies to choose from every day. The movie selection changes every week. We’re taking advantage of this, and are especially excited about seeing Pete’s Dragon and Little Rascals.
2. The pool. Sadly, many of the city pools are closed for the summer because of the budget. We are fortunate enough to have our own pool. We often invite friends over and the kids never get tired of swimming.
3. Dairy Queen Where else can you still get an ice cream cone for under $2? It’s hot here, so we are pretty generous during the summer with letting the boys have ice cream and ice pops. When it’s just too hot to go outside and play, a trip to DQ is a great way to pass the time.
4.Chick-Fil-A (Also known as, the cleanest fast food restaurant in Tucson) We love Chick-Fil-A. Throughout the school year my girlfriend Eileen, her sister Lisa, and I would often meet at Chick-Fil-A with our collective 4 kids. Sometimes we would go to the zoo or the Children’s Museum first, but often, we would just meet at Chick-Fil-A for a really long lunch.
The restaurant, the play area, and the bathrooms are clean. The staff is among the friendliest group of people I have met. The food – yummy! And… ready for this? They have balloons. And a nice man named Robert that is eager to blow them up for the kids before they even ask.
Sold.
The kids love to eat lunch and then play together in the play area. And the Moms? We can chat, watch our kids play, and relax for a bit. During the summer, in the 100 degree heat? Chick-Fil-A is an undiscovered treasure for Moms.
5. Pump it Up Three days a week, they open up their gym for kids to jump and get some energy out. It’s air conditioned and fun, and we all leave tired. 2 nights a week, they have a family jump night, and… get this… on the first Tuesday of each month, they have a Sensory Jump Night for children on the Autistic Spectrum. Reservations are required for that night, to keep groups small and less stimulating for the kids.
So tell me, what are you planning to do this summer?

Sit back in my lawn chair and put my feet in my little plastic doggie pool. Which, they don’t use and I also have a squirt bottle full of water for days that it is really hot and humid (80-85)
This summer, I’m planning to go to AZ with my handsome husband to visit my incredible brother, sister-in-law, and 2 of my 3 nephews. We’re going to go to the Grand Canyon. We may take a trip to Niagra Falls in August. We’re hanging out in Boston on the 4th of July. No better place, in my humble opinion to be on the 4th. We have LOTS of yard work to do. We’ll probably go sailing lots, too! We don’t have too many DQ’s here, so we’re looking forward to Blizzards in AZ. And In-n-Out. And Baggins. And Nico’s. And swimming.
Love this post and love your ideas! I only have a few days with my little guy this summer, during the week, and some of these sound super! I keep wanting to try Chick Fil A, but by myself, I can just see ordering the food and my little dasher dashes off. He’s quick. Maybe I can hook up with you and/or Eileen for a date? The movies? Still haven’t tried one yet at 2 1/2, but that might just be the excuse. $2. For me, free for him! The pools…geez, ours close by is closed Fri and Sat. What’s up with that? Anyway, I can’t stop rambling because your post got me so excited!
106 degrees. Oh my good heavens!
and you still went on a photo walk! How fabulous is that? : )
I think I would have to do a photo walk at the MALL if it was 106!
Can’t wait to see pictures!

Sounds like some great plans for the summer. They had a similar movie thing here a couple of years ago…I wish I could find something similar again this year…but no luck so far.
We love Chick-Fil-A here, too. I love the fact that they offer table covers for the little ones and sanitizing wipes for after lunch and after playing!
That is fantastic that the pump it up offers such a wonderful option for families of autism.
Well, stay cool!

Your suggestions rock! Thanks to your inside-info, we hit the movies today…it wasn’t crowded and the kids loved it. Then toy store afterwards…so fun!
Love CFA!!! Did you mention the playground is enclosed in glass, so you can watch your kids safely playing, but don’t have to listen to all of it. :) Also, all you readers of Becca’s, she’s an actual VIP at Chick-Fil-A. :)
Pump It Up was fun, but quite far from us. When we got there, it was full and we couldn’t go in. One lady was with a bday party and had driven down from Phoenix…and they wouldn’t let her in. So get there early. :)
Also the splash park at Brandi Fenton (River and Alvernon) is terrific!

Yay for summer! Grant and I are headed out to Vegas in a couple weeks, so that will be fun. Hot, though, I’m sure… :)
We eat popsicles and ice cream cones like crazy in the summertime. It’s kind of a necessity here in Southern AZ! :)

That is crazy hot for this early in the year! And how sad that your local pools closed. Poor kids.

Toothless Jack makes me smile!
What *do* we plan on doing? Lots of smoothie pops for a certain little blond boy. There will be many a grilled meal. Swim classes. Sleeping in, staying up late. Happy hours. Homemade ice cream. But mostly counting down the days until the girls come home.

It has been SO HOT here too!!! 105 all weekend, ick! We are planning a week vacation to Colorado in July, and lots of swimming, grilling and movie watching!
Oh and Chick-Fil-A is my family’s favorite too (except for me – not a fan of the food)
