Funny...I vividly remember going to an ostrich farm as a kindergartener or first grader. I remember some features of the farm, but not a whole lot more. Point being, I am taking up for Jack. I remember the farmer telling us, and my teacher repeating (I want to say she was looking at me...) to "not reach through the fence, and dont put your feet on the fence". So I go all day with that on my mind...by the end of the day I just had to put my foot on the fence. So I waited til the teacher was far enough away and no one was really paying me any attention, and I threw my red Converse'd foot up on the fence, right in plain view of a gaggle..herd..swarm of ostriches. Before I knew what had happened, one of them DESTROYED my shoe. Ripped the laces out of the eyelets and rip part of the tongue off. When I jerked my foot back another ostrich wanted my shoe, so it held on to it and ran off with it...The farmer was less than thrilled that he had to chase down a defensive, mad, large bird, my teacher was less than surprised, and my Mom was..unhappy when I got off of the bus with one nice shoe and one that looked like a spit filled wood chipper had gotten ahold of it.

Ahh...life in rural North Carolina.

So glad you have pictures to go along with this and SO GLAD I read this when Max is four and narrates stories in such an expressive way!!! And that shirt looks very suspicious!! These little moments really resonate, I'm glad you were moved to capture it and share it with us. I also love it that you are conscientious enough to black out the name of his school on his shirt. Right on Mom!!

That last photo is priceless. I love his beaming smile.

P.S. We have waffles/pancakes for dinner regularly...often with whipped cream and homemade blueberry sauce. :)

Too cute!

And that first field trip with a school is scary for Mom!

I'm still uneasy about them and my son is in Kindy now.
