How awful about your laptop. It's a worst nightmare. I did lose several pictures one time when I accidentally wrote over a folder that I had altered. But nothing like losing everything and at least I had some of them stored on the blog, too. I now have a laptop plus my old desktop that's attached to a terabyte hard drive. My current system is to put the photos on the laptop as I need them for the blog and then, about once a week, I empty the camera card onto the desktop, clearing the card when I do. Then once every three months or so, I back-up my photos to the external hard drive. So far, it's been a good system and I know my pictures are stored more than one place. Overkill? perhaps.
