Just waiting…

January 30, 2010

I took this great picture of the sunset tonight. I can’t upload it because I lost my camera cord 5 months ago.

Go ahead. Ask.

“How have you been uploading pictures for the last 5 months?”

With my fancy-schmancy new laptop that has a special opening for my camera card, that’s how.

Said fancy-schmancy laptop is currently still in the fancy-schmancy laptop shop.

Waiting for a fancy-schmancy new hard drive.

Because the old one died.

It died before the laptop doc could get my files off of it.

Files like 967 pictures.

146 blog posts.

and a lot of files for work.

Yes, I know that I already said that in this post.

I’m just dwelling on reiterating it. Because I can.

But I’m looking on the bright side.

Really. I am.

They’re just things.

Jack told me today, “Mom, you can take lots more pictures. We just have to go back to those places and you can take the same ones.”

Back to Cancun…  I guess that would work. Hmmm…

Currently, I am using my hoopty laptop (thanks for the term Hillary) and it is sloooooooow. And louuuuuuuud.

So, bare with me. I’m here.

Waiting patiently for my computer to come home so I can share some pictures with you.

Because boy, do I have some stories to tell…

Bummer about your laptop :( At least you can download pictures off of your blog, right? Another great reason for blogging.
Hope your laptop feels better soon!

Did you clear out your memory card? I haven’t cleared mine in forever, I think for that reason even though all my pictures are on an external (so SO worth the money…just saying.).

Sorry they couldn’t save your stuff…that really stinks!

Oh yeah, clear it out every time I download pictures. Ahem. Won’t be doing that anymore.

I SO hear you. And empathize with you. Two of my computers got infected last year and if it weren’t for my blog, I would have lost ALL of them, including my Cancun pictures.

The best part……….after that, I still forget to backup my photos. :)

Dear, Dear, Becca,
We always think this can not happen to us but we all know it does. I am sorry for what has happened but I preach on having good backups as a geeky computer tech this is part of what I do for a living and yes I have also been caught and lost out big time. But now I hope that folks have learned by your experience. It sucks but it only takes that one time. Okay for me maybe twice but I do not always practice what I preach. As Gramma “Wheels” Scheriff would always say to me oh honey I am so so sory I wish that there was someting that I could do to make it better for you. But I also have to state that other than my ipod touch and my ipod classic and my ipod nano(I absolutely love all of these gadgets by the way) I know nothing about mac products. So just remember backup, backop, backup. Okay I am now getting off my soapbox. Love ya Dolly and Happy blog birthday. I LOVE YOUR BLOGS…

Thanks, Aunt Marge. I was so proud of myself for buying the external hard drive… hooking it up the day that I got it… then BAM. It died while it was backing up. Come on!!!

Love you :)

That is so sad. I had that happen with a Toshiba and they were not very good about replacing anything… so it was a very expensive lesson learned even with the warranty and many phone calls later. End result they did fix it with a great deal of headache. I wish they made computers like they use too..I hate to say that I sound so old and I am really not. LOVE your blog and really enjoying reading it- glad I found you.

Oh No! I was so hoping they could get your files.. :( I like Jack’s idea though! Maybe another trip to Cancun is in order! :) Speaking of pics from Cancun, I’ve been playing around with that one photo and have gotten it so I can see your face, but not Steve’s so much. I’m still messing around with it though… I did learn new things about Photoshop in the process though! :0)

So sorry!

Oh, Becca. How awful about your laptop. It’s a worst nightmare. I did lose several pictures one time when I accidentally wrote over a folder that I had altered. But nothing like losing everything and at least I had some of them stored on the blog, too. I now have a laptop plus my old desktop that’s attached to a terabyte hard drive. My current system is to put the photos on the laptop as I need them for the blog and then, about once a week, I empty the camera card onto the desktop, clearing the card when I do. Then once every three months or so, I back-up my photos to the external hard drive. So far, it’s been a good system and I know my pictures are stored more than one place. Overkill? perhaps. But I don’t like that feeling of losing them all.

No way to retrieve them? Magic??

So sorry you lost all your pictures and posts and work stuff! I would have cried, cried, cried my eyes out.

At least you have your blog, right? You’ve posted quite a few photos here. Phew…
