I realized this week that it’s been a while since I told you about all the stuff I’ve learned…
It has always been a fun post, I don’t know why I stopped writing one… but I’m back now!
-This week, I learned that you can buy these cactus leaves:

in the grocery store. You know, just in case you can’t find enough of them in your back yard. I have yet to make something with them. Maybe someday soon I’ll surprise you with a recipe.
-I learned that you can microwave your kitchen sponge to remove germs. You can wash it in the dishwasher, too. But microwaving it is much more fun. Look what happens:

Ok, that doesn’t always happen. But if you microwave it for 3 minutes instead of 2, that’s what happens. The kids thought it was pretty funny that Mom started a fire in the kitchen.
-I learned that when you husband decides to make cornhole boards, you should think twice about agreeing to paint them. Because it might take up all of your blogging time, leaving your 7 readers to wonder if you dropped off the planet.
They do look pretty, though, don’t they?

We were able to take them to the park for a picnic with a few friends this weekend. Even though Steve didn’t get to show off the fancy lights that he installed in them, everyone had fun!

That’s about it for this week. I’ll be back next week if I don’t burn my house down with that sponge trick.

Great paint job!
I look forward to playing “cornhole”
I have never thought to look for cactus leaves at the grocery store. Even living in AZ, I would think this was weird! Hope you’re able to find something to make with them.
I can see why ‘over cooking’ the sponge is so much fun! Have you ever tried to microwave marshmellows? I’ve only been told of the affects of microwaving marshmellow’s, but given the description I don’t think I’ll be teaching my boys this trick.
Thank you for your encouragement this morning. As for your question – he hasn’t had recess at all last week. He was suppose to be working on his school work and chose to just sit on the wall. He can be stubborn like this. I’m hoping and praying that today is better.
Wow – those cornhole boards look great! The sponge looks like my burnt grilled cheese. There’s a local restaurant here that makes margaritas with cactus leaves. Yum! I bet there’s a recipe online.
YES, you definitely have to be careful microwaving sponges. I just toss mine every few days and get out a new one. Wasteful, I’m sure. But safer! ;-)
I did NOT know you were 49ers fans. That makes me happy :)
I learned this week just how much I miss my AZ family and wish I could be with them every day instead of just 6-7 days a year. I learned from this blog that I will not come to AZ to get a job picking those cactus leaves off of the cactus trees. That must be the suckiest job in AZ. Although your Dad might do just fine just walking through the desert because they just seem to cling to him while he walks by.
And another thing, aren’t sponges disposable for a reason?
Do you know that corn dogs, left in the wrapper, turned on too long by a ten year old that misread the directions, will melt, start on fire and leave NOTHING left but a plastic mess on a stick. No joking…can you tell I have experienced this?
And the cornhole boards look GREAT. My boys want some of those to take camping.

The same thing happened to me when I micowaved my sponge for too long! I’ve heard that doesn’t happen if you put in the mic w/ in a dish with an inch of water. I’m too scared to try it again!
I noticed those cactus leaves at the store this week too. Kinda weird, even for a desert dweller like myself.
Oh, and so that’s what you’ve been painting. You did a nice job!

I love the paint job, even though it’s the Niners…but oh well….lol
Cactus…really? Interesting…
I nuke my sponge once a week (or so), but never did I set it on fire. Go big right…

I love the cornhole boards! But, can you just call them something besides cornhole? How about Cactus Hole? Doesn’t that sound a little more Arizona, that way? I can’t wait to play with them, whatever you want to call them. :)
Burnt sponges? Yikes! Buy a big pack at Costco for around 5 bucks and just toss them every couple-three days. It’s much safer that way. Or…. you can put them in your dishwasher with your dishes.
And for buying cactus at the store… what is there to make with cactus?? Cactus Martinis? Cactus Margaritas? I’ll be happy to try to help you out with the whole recipe making aspect of this. Always willing to be your guinea pig! :)
Those look fabulous! And lights too? I’m so impressed!!!
