The Scary Fairy

Jack lost his first tooth yesterday!

Those of you who know Jack IRL know that he was trying SO hard to keep the tooth in his mouth until he was 9. That obviously didn’t work so well for him.

This little tooth has been loose – very loose – for over a month now. Jack refused to play with it or wiggle it like other kids do. He wanted to keep it in his mouth forever, which may or may not have something to do with his big brother.

On Friday, it was perpendicular to the other teeth in his mouth. Gross.

On Saturday, it was hanging by a thread. Uck.

On Sunday, we were celebrating Michael’s swim meet success (more on that later tonight, I promise!) at P-cubed* and it fell out when he was chewing a bite of pizza. Yay!

All afternoon, he kept talking about how he wanted to take pictures and show everyone his lost tooth. He smiled big smiles for the rest of the day.

Then came bedtime.

Jack: ”Ummm… I don’t want to put my tooth under my pillow tonight. I want to wait.”

Mom: “Wait for what?”

Jack: “8 months. Or 9 months.”

Mom: “8 or 9 months? Why?”

Jack: “I just do. I want to look at it for a long time before I put it under my pillow.”

We explained that for your first tooth, the tooth fairy lets you keep it. And if you want to keep any other teeth, all you have to do is write her a note and she’ll leave it behind with the money.

He wasn’t budging.

I get it. A little fairy? That collects teeth?? Comes in your room???  And looks under your pillow????

A little scary, I admit.

He was almost in tears. And by then, I was tired. Michael was in his bed (they share a room) telling me how he thinks “you and Dad are the real tooth fairy” and I just wasn’t ready for that talk just yet. I think I’ll let Dad do that one.

So last night, the tooth sat on the bathroom counter. Patiently waiting in it’s cute little tooth container for the night when Jack decides that the strange little woman who collects teeth can finally come into his room.

Stopping by via Darcie’s blog. I know you have commented on mine, too. So, I am not sure how I have never stopped by here before. Anyway, great blog design! I see on the bottom that Jeff must have done it! Looks great.

Now, onto my comment. How exciting for him. However, I can understand the trepidation. I mean we talk to our kids about strangers and that there are no monsters in the closet, etc. Then, we expect them to be ok with a little lady coming into their room in the middle of the night and taking something that has been with them for a very long time! LOL. Well, I am sure when he is ready, it will be doubly exciting to get that little special treat!

Wonder what he thinks the toothfairy looks like………tinkerbell or full size fairy lady or man dressed like fairy needing a shave with cigar hanging out of his mouth

So glad he was able to hang on to it until he wasn’t here anymore. Lost teeth really creep me out.

Funny. I’d never thought of how frightening the tooth fairy concept really is.

Okay… the visual from Erik’s comment made me laugh out loud! (man dressed like fairy needing a shave with cigar hanging out of his mouth!) I’m sure if that’s what he was visualizing, he may never want to trade his tooth in for the $100. :)

You know who else is scary? Santa!!
A fat old guy with a beard who breaks into your house. weird.
And we have TONS of code words. Mainly we spell or partially spell, but some are too good to type. :)

My comment got lost so here I am again. It’s no wonder kids are scared of their rooms – tiny fairy, big ol’ bearded man…who else? I hope the little man gets a visit soon. Our TF brings gold dollar coins!

So funny that our kids had the same reaction!! Really can’t blame them though— a creature who comes in at night and takes teeth? Pretty creepy, LOL!

OK – my comment got lost too – but Mike – the fairy is up to at least 20.00 now. And Becca, maybe you should make a necklace for him. That would be awesome.

wow I’m gonna have to remember that when my kids get to the teeth-losing stage!
I love code words! We use “monkey fruit” for bananas (usually when we don’t have any), “Zac’s drink” for bottle (sounds like a cocktail huh?), and “r to the u to the n to the n to the i to the n to the g” for running (darn lilly started learning how to spell so we had to add “to the’s” to throw her off. ha!)

LOL, Becca! We didn’t have code words, but we spelled a lot. Until the night we spelled e-e-g-e-e-s and Susan pipes up with “yeah, Eegee’s sounds good!”

The tooth fairy can be a bit creepy, but I am glad he let “her” come anyway.

Hunter tried to talk to Boo about the tooth fairy, I told him if he told her there would be not Christmas presents since he would let slip about Santa too. Little booger!
