For a second, let’s quickly refer back to the post that started it all.
I’ll wait.
Ok… on to this evening.
We always let the birthday boy pick their dinner. Anything they want, as long as it’s not just cake and ice cream (mean, aren’t we?)
This year Michael chose steak (just steak – no vegetables, no potatoes, nothing but steak – uck). Jack wants shrimp. (no vegetables, no potatoes, nothing but shrimp – double uck).
I feel the need to interrupt for a moment and explain that we cook a whole meal for the rest of the family that doesn’t care to have a huge plate of steak, steak, and more steak (or shrimp, shrimp, and more shrimp), but if the birthday boy doesn’t want veggies on his birthday, we don’t force it.
Steve will be out of town on Jack’s actual birthday, which is an issue because I don’t cook seafood. Actually, I don’t touch seafood. It makes me gag. Especially shrimp. They have those little leggy things hanging off their belly and their veins… ok. I need to stop.
Steve will be gone and I was planning on taking the boys out somewhere for shrimp until our amazing friends Kristin & Kenny offered to cook birthday shrimp for Jack. (I did a little happy dance). Awesome. I’ll buy it, I’ll bring it, but I don’t have to touch it!
Steve was telling Jack how bummed he was that he is going to miss his birthday dinner this year, because he loves Kenny’s shrimp.
Jack said “That’s ok, Dad. I bet Marilyn will make you shrimp.”

I usually cheat with shrimp and buy the frozen bags at Costco. PS: Marilyn has great seafood…he should try the bay crabs. Yum!
